BITKOM is the voice of the information technology, telecommunications and new media industry in Germany and represents more than 1,600 companies. They include nearly all global players as well as more than 700 powerful small and medium-sized companies. BITKOM represents roughly 90 percent of the German ICT market.

  • Energy efficiency in data centres
  • Definition of potential hazards
  • Definition of (high) availability and downtimes
  • Laws, regulations, certification and standards
  • Physical security (building services), fire alarm and suppression, control cabinets, cabling, air-conditioning, energy including UPS and emergency power, security systems (access control systems, alarm systems, perimeter security)

Objectives and activities:

  • Prepare and establish open standards based on best practice examples.
  • Bring together companies specialising in the various fields involved in building a reliable data centre.
  • Prepare materials and whitepapers on the physical security of data centres and rack-based ICT structures.
  • Present the issue and the working group's capabilities at events and trade shows.
  • Update and enhance the "Reliable Data Centres" guideline and the planning guide matrix.
